Do you know the story behind the famous Canton-Massillon rivalry? Instead of this famous rivalry's genesis being the game of football, it actually started with fear...of a bug called the Culicidae.
THE BIZARRE STORY BEHIND THE FAMOUS CANTON-MASSILLON RIVALRY
Instead of this famous rivalry's genesis being the game of football, it actually started with Canton's toxic fear of a little bug called the culicidae (cue-liss-a-dee), a bug that helped in the creation of the town of Massillon - 21 years after Canton's founding in 1805. Because of a decision made by the leading men of Canton in the early 1820s, Canton would have to fight to retain her position as Stark County Seat. In the 1830s, strong petitions were made to move the courthouse to Massillon, then known as Stark County's most famous town, Ohio's Wheat City.
The Perry Sippo Branch is located within the Exploration Gateway alongside the Stark County Park District office. The branch boasts a serene atmosphere and views of Sippo Lake as well as a coffee and gift shop.
